Presentation and preparation
50 mg/mL (volume: 1 mL, 2 mL)
Equivalent to zuclopenthixol (base) 45.25 mg/mL.
IV administration
Never administer intravenously.
Other routes of administration
IM: Suitable. Give undiluted by deep IM injection into the gluteal region using the Z-tracking method. Volumes greater than 2 mL should be administered into two different injection sites.
SC: Not recommended.
Additional information
Do not confuse Clopixol Acuphase with the zuclopenthixol long-acting depot preparation Clopixol Depot. Refer to Product Information for details.
Clopixol Acuphase and Clopixol Depot may be mixed together, if necessary, in the same syringe to reduce the number of IM injections.
Concomitant use of CNS depressants (e.g. opioids, parenteral benzodiazepines, IM olanzapine) increases the risk of respiratory depression, sedation, coma and death.
Patients at risk of prolonged QT: Monitor ECG prior to use where possible.
Monitor closely for extrapyramidal side effects.
Solution should be a clear, yellow viscous oil.
Protect from light.
