Presentation and preparation

50 mg/mL (volume: 1 mL)

IV administration

Give undiluted or dilute to a convenient volume and give over at least 5 minutes.

In emergency situations such as acute isoniazid poisoning: Give dose by intravenous infusion at a rate of 500 mg/minute. If seizures stop, the rest of the dose can be infused over 4 hours. Seek specialist advice.

Other routes of administration

IM: Suitable. 

SC: Suitable.

If treating seizures in infants, IM or IV routes are recommended.

Sodium chloride 0.9%

Additional information

Extravasation risk.

Observe closely for anaphylactic reactions.

Monitor respiratory rate, sedation and blood pressure with large doses. Use only when facilities for cardiac monitoring and cardio-respiratory resuscitation exist.

Discard any unused vial contents.

Protect from light during storage.
