Strength

Equivalent to 1 mmol of phosphate and 1 mmol of potassium per mL.

IV administration

Must be diluted before use.

Peripheral line: Dilute to 0.05 mmol/mL or weaker.

Central line: Dilute to 0.12 mmol/mL or weaker.

Infuse over 6 hours at a rate of 0.06 mmol/kg/hour or less.

If necessary, infuse at a maximum rate of 0.2 mmol/kg/hour.

Other routes of administration

IM: Not recommended.

SC: Not recommended.

Additional information

Extravasation risk.

Note potassium content. Rapid infusion can cause hypotension, dysrhythmia and cardiac arrest: monitor ECG, respiratory rate and blood pressure when infused at the maximum rate.

If solution appears discoloured or appears to contain particulate matter, it should not be used and should be discarded.

Do not infuse with IV calcium-containing fluids.

Potassium dihydrogen phosphate and IV calcium-containing products may be administered concurrently via completely separate lines.
