Presentation and preparation
Ampoule:
0.1 mg/mL (volume: 5 mL)
10 mg/mL (volume: 1 mL)
Vial:
10 mg/mL (volume: 1 mL)
IV administration
Administer via a large vein or central line.
Neo-Synephrine and Phenylephrine Baxter:
Dilute to 1 mg/mL and give over at least 3 minutes.
For continuous infusion, dilute to 20 microgram/mL and give preferably via a central line.
Maximum concentration if necessary: 400 microgram/mL.
Phenylephrine BNM: Give undiluted over at least 3 minutes.
In emergencies, any brand can be given undiluted over 20 to 30 seconds.
Other routes of administration
Neo-Synephrine and Phenylephrine Baxter:
IM: Suitable. Give undiluted.
SC: Suitable. Give undiluted.
Phenylephrine BNM:
Not suitable for IM or SC administration.

Glucose 5%
Sodium chloride 0.9%
Y-site only and phenylephrine (Neo-Synephrine and Phenylephrine Baxter) 4 mg/mL or weaker:
Hartmann’s
Ringer’s
Potassium chloride 20 mmol/L
Additional information
Extravasation risk.
Frequent IV catheter site monitoring is recommended.
Use only when facilities for cardiac monitoring and cardio-respiratory resuscitation exist.
Monitor blood pressure and heart rate.
Protect from light during storage.
Neo-Synephrine and Phenylephrine Baxter:
Contains a sulfite preservative.
