IV administration
Give undiluted as a rapid injection or dilute to a convenient volume for infusion.
Other routes of administration
IM: Suitable. Give undiluted.
SC: Not recommended.
Intradermal: For extravasation management. Dilute to 0.5 mg/mL and give 4 to 5 small aliquots by intradermal injection across the site of injury. Use within 12 hours of injury. Refer to local guidelines.
Compatible IV fluids
Sodium chloride 0.9%
Y-site only and phentolamine 5 mg/mL or weaker:
Potassium chloride 20 mmol/L
Additional information
Monitor blood pressure and administer while the patient is lying down.
Use only when facilities for cardiac monitoring and cardio-respiratory resuscitation exist.
Contains sulfites; may cause anaphylactic or asthmatic reactions in susceptible patients.
Refrigerate, do not freeze.
