Strength

10 mg/mL (volume: 1 mL, 2 mL)

50 mg/mL (volume: 1 mL)

IV administration

Dilute to 1 mg/mL and give over 2 minutes or give as an infusion.

Refer to relevant local guidelines for more information.

Other routes of administration

IM: Not recommended.

SC: Suitable. For SC injection, use 10 mg/mL concentration undiluted or dilute to a convenient volume for infusion for SC infusion (1 mg/mL dilution is suggested by some references)

Additional information

Monitor respiratory rate, sedation and blood pressure.

Concomitant use of CNS depressants (e.g. parenteral benzodiazepines, IM olanzapine) increases the risk of respiratory depression, sedation, coma and death.

Take care with selecting products as the 50 mg/mL formulation is intended for infusion use only in opioid-tolerant patients in a palliative care setting.

Protect from light during storage.

Reconstituted solution should be clear and colourless or slightly yellow depending on the strength and brand used.
