IV administration
Doses less than 2 mg/kg AND equal to or less than 250 mg: Give undiluted over at least 5 minutes.
Doses 2 to 15 mg/kg AND equal to or less than 250 mg: Dilute to 20 mg/mL or weaker and give over at least 15 minutes.
Doses equal to or greater than 15 mg/kg OR greater than 250 mg: Dilute to 20 mg/mL or weaker and give over at least 30 minutes.
Doses equal to or greater than 1000 mg: Dilute to 20 mg/mL or weaker and give over at least 1 hour.
May also be given as a continuous infusion.
Other routes of administration
IM: Suitable. Give undiluted by slow injection into a large muscle. Avoid injection into the deltoid muscle due to high incidence of subcutaneous atrophy.
SC: Not recommended.

Additional information
Do not confuse different salt preparations. Check product selection carefully.
Rapid administration of high doses may cause hypotension, arrhythmias and cardiac arrest.
Use with caution in neonates; contains benzyl alcohol which has been linked with 'gasping syndrome'.
Use immediately after reconstitution.
Discard any unused vial contents.
Protect from light during storage.
Act-O-Vial 40 mg: Contains lactose.
