Strength

Equivalent to elemental magnesium 1 mmol/mL.

IV administration

Concentrations and rates refer to the magnesium component. 

Dilute to 0.08 mmol/mL or weaker and give by slow intravenous infusion. Refer to relevant local guideline.

Life threatening cardiac arrhythmias: Give dose over 5 to 10 minutes. Refer to relevant local guideline.

Maximum rate: 0.24 mmol/minute (3 mL/minute).

Other routes of administration

IM: Not recommended.

SC: Not recommended.

Glucose 5%

Glucose 5% and sodium chloride 0.9%

Sodium chloride 0.9%

Additional information

Check product carefully, different magnesium containing products are not directly interchangeable.

Rapid IV infusion may cause hypotension, nausea, respiratory depression and cardiac arrhythmias.

Monitor blood pressure and respiratory rate during infusion.

Protect from light during storage.
