Presentation and preparation
4 mg/mL (volume: 1 mL)
IV administration
Dilute with an equal volume of a compatible fluid. Gently invert to mix, do not shake.
Give as a slow injection into a large vein or through the tubing of a free flowing IV infusion.
Maximum rate: 0.05 mg/kg over 2 to 5 minutes (maximum 2 mg/minute).
Other routes of administration
IV is the preferred route.
IM: Suitable. Dilute dose with an equal volume of water for injections and give by deep intramuscular injection.
SC: Not recommended.

Sodium chloride 0.9%
Additional information
Extravasation risk.
Use with caution in neonates; contains benzyl alcohol which has been linked with ‘gasping syndrome’.
Contains propylene glycol, which can cause CNS depression, hyperosmolality, metabolic acidosis and renal impairment.
Use only when facilities for cardiac monitoring and cardio-respiratory resuscitation exists.
Concomitant use of CNS depressants (e.g. opioids, IM olanzapine) increases the risk of respiratory depression, sedation, coma and death.
Do not give lorazepam within 1 hour of IM olanzapine.
Refrigerate, do not freeze.
Discard any unused vial contents.
Protect from light during storage.
