Strength

IV administration

Doses less than 1 g:

Dilute to 6 to 10 mg/mL and give over at least 1 hour.

Doses 1 g or more:

Dilute to 10 mg/mL and infuse at a maximum rate of 1 g/hour.

All doses must be infused over at least 1 hour.

Maximum rate: 1 g/hour.

Maximum concentration: 10 mg/mL.

Other routes of administration

IM: Suitable. Give undiluted by deep injection into large muscle mass.

SC: Not recommended.

Additional information

Do not exceed recommended concentration and/or rate of IV administration: Severe cardiopulmonary reactions have occurred.

Caution with use in neonates; contains benzyl alcohol which has been linked with ‘gasping syndrome'.

Solution should be clear and almost colourless (Lincocin) to slightly yellow (Lincomycin SXP).

Protect from light during storage.
