IV administration
Rates of IV administration are specific to indication, individual requirement and response. Refer to local guidelines.
Dilute to 20 mg/mL or weaker and give over at least 2 to 3 minutes. Maximum rate: 0.7 mg/kg/minute or 50 mg/minute; whichever is less.
Higher rates of administration have been used during acute emergencies.
May dilute to 8 mg/mL or weaker and give as a continuous infusion.
Other routes of administration
IM: Suitable as a diluent to reduce pain associated with IM administration of other (compatible) drugs; refer to specific monographs for detailed information.
SC: Suitable for local anaesthesia
May be given as a continuous SC infusion in palliative care settings.
Anaesthesia: may be administrered by local or regional infiltration for anaesthetic block. Refer to local guidelines for detailed information

Additional information
Observe closely for anaphylactic reactions.
Use only when facilities for cardiac monitoring and cardio-respiratory resuscitation exist.
Continuous cardiac monitoring is required during IV administration.
Use immediately after preparation as prolonged contact with equipment containing metal may cause severe local irritation upon injection.
Discard any unused vial contents.
Combination solutions containing lidocaine (lignocaine) and epinephrine (adrenaline): Refer to Product Information for administration details; lidocaine (lignocaine) products containing sodium metabisulfite or other preservatives must never be given IV.
