25 mg/mL (volume: 1 mL)

IV administration

Dilute to 12.5 mg/mL and give over at least 3 minutes or as a continuous infusion.

Other routes of administration

IM: Suitable. Give by deep IM injection into a large muscle.

SC: Suitable, Dilute with sodium chloride 0.9% to the largest practical volume to minimise irritation. Give as an intermittent SC injection or continuous SC infusion.

Compatible IV fluids

Glucose 5%

Sodium chloride 0.9%

Additional information

Extravasation risk.

Use with caution in patients predisposed to QT interval prolongation or in patients being administered other medications known to prolong the QT interval. 

Administration of large doses may cause hypotension and anticholinergic effects. Patients should remain lying down during administration and for at least 1 hour after administration.

Concomitant use of CNS depressants (e.g. opioids, parenteral benzodiazepines) increases the risk of respiratory depression, sedation, coma and death. 

May lower the seizure threshold; use cautiously in patients with seizure history.

Protect from light during storage and administration.

Rapidly develops pink or yellow discolouration. Discoloured solutions should be discarded.
