Strength
50 mg/mL elemental iron (volume: 2 mL)
IV administration
Caution: Complex administration.
Dilute to a maximum concentration of 5 mg/mL. Refer to local relevant guideline for more detailed information.
Infusions less than 500 mL:
Give at 20 mL/hour for at least 75 minutes. Rate can be increased by 10 mL/hour every 15 minutes.
Maximum rate: 60 mL/hour.
Infusions equal to or more than 500 mL:
Give at 40 mL/hour for at least 75 minutes. Rate can be increased by 20 mL/hour every 15 minutes.
Maximum rate: 120 mL/hour.
Other routes of administration
IV is the preferred route.
IM: Suitable. Give undiluted into ventrogluteal site. Do not inject into the arm or other exposed areas due to pain and risk of permanent skin discolouration.
SC: Not recommended.

Additional information
Extravasation risk.
Observe closely for anaphylactic and adverse reactions.
A slower initial infusion rate must be used during administration as anaphylactic reactions may occur.
Monitor patients for reactions during and for 30 minutes after the end of the infusion.
Use only when facilities for cardiac monitoring and cardio-respiratory resuscitation exist.
Pre-medication may be required, refer to relevant local guideline.
Solution should be dark red to brown in colour.
Discard any remaining infusion solution.
Protect from light during storage.
