To reconstitute a vial quickly, use an airway needle to allow the full volume of 60 mL to be added immediately.
Shake until solution is clear.
IV administration
Give undiluted, preferably via a central line or large peripheral vein.
Crisis dose: Give undiluted via rapid injection.
Intermittent or continuous infusions have been used post crisis.
Other routes of administration
IM: Contraindicated.
SC: Contraindicated.
Additional information
Extravasation risk.
Ensure proper catheter placement prior to and during infusion.
Each vial of Dantrium contains 3 g mannitol; this must be considered if mannitol is used to prevent or treat late renal complications of malignant hyperthermia.
Do not use glass bottles for infusions. Use immediately after reconstitution or within 6 hours of preparation.
Protect from light during storage, and administration.
