Clindamycin

Clindamycin (Viatris), Dalacin C

Strength

150 mg/mL (volume: 2 mL, 4 mL)

IV administration

Dilute to 18 mg/mL or weaker and give over 10 minutes to 1 hour.

Maximum rate: 20 mg/kg/hour or 30 mg/minute.

CoPAT Administration:

Stable at 12 mg/mL for 24 hours at 23°C. Stability data is limited for temperatures at 25°C and above; refer to Glossary and Notes for storage advice.   

Other routes of administration

IM: Suitable for doses up to 600 mg. Give undiluted by deep IM injection.

SC: Not recommended.

Sodium chloride 0.9%

Y-site only:

Plasma-Lyte 148

Potassium chloride 20 mmol/L

Additional information

Rapid administration may cause hypotension and cardiac arrest.

Solution is clear, colourless to pale yellow.

Discard any unused vial or ampoule contents.

Dalacin C only:

Use with caution in neonates; contains benzyl alcohol which has been linked with ‘gasping syndrome’. 

Refrigerate, do not freeze.
