Reconstitute to 100 mg/mL for IV administration.
*For 2 g vials, reconstitute by adding approximately half of the volume of diluent into the vial, then draw up the solution to complete reconstitution in a syringe.

Reconstitute to 350 mg/mL for IM administration.
IV administration
Dilute to 40 mg/mL or weaker and give over at least 30 minutes.
Neonates: Give over 1 hour only.
When necessary, doses 50 mg/kg or less (and 1 gram or less): Dilute to 40 mg/mL or weaker and give over 5 minutes.
Other routes of administration
IM: Suitable. Give reconstituted solution undiluted. Give by deep IM injection into a large muscle mass.
SC: Not recommended.

Additional information
Neonates less than 28 days of age: Do NOT administer ceftriaxone and IV calcium-containing products, by the same or different infusion lines or sites, within 48 hours of each other.
Patients older than 28 days of age: Ceftriaxone and IV calcium-containing products may be administered sequentially through the same infusion line if they are thoroughly flushed between infusions with a compatible fluid or via different infusion lines at different sites.
Ensure adequate hydration.
IV aminoglycoside antibiotics are inactivated by IV cephalosporins, penicillins and teicoplanin; refer to Glossary and Notes.
Reconstituted solution should be light yellow or amber, and may be slightly opalescent.
Protect from light during storage.
