Presentation and Preparation

Solution must be diluted prior to administration.

Gently rotate or swirl to mix. Do not shake diluted or undiluted solution.

Dilute to 4 mg/mL or weaker. Infuse over at least 4 hours via a 0.2 1 micron low protein binding in-line filter, preferably via a central line, or a high flow vein.

Infusions must be completed within 24 hours of preparation.

Other routes of administration

IM: Not recommended.

SC: Not recommended.

Intradermal: For skin-test, dilute to 50 microgram/mL with sodium chloride 0.9%.  

Compatible IV fluids

Glucose 5% and sodium chloride 0.45%

Sodium chloride 0.9%

Do not add to Glucose-only solutions.

Additional information

Observe closely for anaphylactic reactions.

Use only when facilities for cardiac monitoring and cardio-respiratory resuscitation exist.

When preparing infusions, invert the intravenous fluid bag or bottle so that undiluted Atgam does not contact the air inside.

An intradermal skin-test is recommended before the first infusion; refer to specific transplant protocols for more information.

Premedication with antihistamines or corticosteroids may be required to reduce infusion related reactions; see local protocol or guidelines.

Solution should be clear to slightly opalescent, and colourless to slightly brownIt may contain some granular or flaky particles

Refrigerate, do not freeze.

Protect from light during storage.
